英語を母国語としていない人が頻繫に間違える英文法の中で欠かせないのが前置詞の誤りです。冠詞と同様に、前置詞の抜け、前置詞の誤った使用、不要な前置詞入れが代表的な前置詞ミスと言えます。

以下は、前置詞の間違った使用に関する例です。

  • He walked toward to the post office. → He walked toward the post office.
  • We will discuss about it during the meeting. → We will discuss it in the meeting.
  • The security guard will make you to leave if you don’t have an ID. → The security guard will make you leave if you don’t have an ID.
  • Can you help me to clean the house? → Can you help me clean the house?
  • When will the packages arrive to the facility? → When will the packages arrive at the facility?
  • Jill is married with Ryan. → Jill is married to Ryan.
  • Will you sell to me your old laptop? → Will you sell me your old laptop?
  • I will wait you at the station. → I will wait for you at the station.
  • Dad went to the store get milk. → Dad went to the store to get milk.
  • She went in to that building. → She went into that building.
  • The company will go public at July. → The company will go public in July.
  • The CEO mentioned about the new product yesterday. → The CEO mentioned the new product yesterday.
  • He has already dropped his phone for a few times. → He has already dropped his phone a few times.

残念ながら、前置詞は明確で一貫して適用される規則がありません。 多くの場合は、前置詞が文章に必要かどうか、必要ならどんな前置詞をつけるかについて暗記する方法しかありません。

もちろん、英語にたくさん触れるようにして、前置詞の使用パターンを自然に身につける方法が最も理想的です。英語で書かれた本、洋画やドラマ、英語のトークショーとニュース、そしてYouTubeなど、さまざまな英語のコンテンツに触れているうちに自然に前置詞を身につけることができます。 私の場合は、関心事を扱うオーディオブックや、アメリカのスタートアップCEOのインタビューなどをYouTubeで見ながら英語コンテンツに触れています。最近、面白かった映像は「スナップチャット」の創業者であり、「ミランダ·カー」との結婚で話題になった「エヴァン·シュピーゲル」のインタビューでした。 若い時期から創業し成功したビジネスマンの精製された英語を聞くことができました。
