照明英語で(Lighting, Light, Illuminations差異と意味)

「照明」は英語で文脈によって「lighting」、「light」、「illuminations」と言います。

暗くなっても生活できるようにしてくれる「照明」は英語で何というか、下で例文と一緒に色んな表現を見て見ましょう。

Lighting

「Lighting」は部屋の中、お家、劇場などで使われる照明の配列を指します。

The stage lighting created a dramatic effect during the play.（舞台照明は演劇が進行される間、劇的な効果を作ってくれた。）
She adjusted the lighting in the room to create a cozy atmosphere. (彼女は安らかな雰囲気を作るために部屋の中の照明を調節した。)
She learned about the different types of lighting used in interior design. (彼女はインテリアデザインに使われる様々な種類の照明について知るようになった。)

「Light」はランプや電球のように光を出す装置を指します。

She forgot to turn off the kitchen lights before leaving the house. (彼女は家を出る前に台所の照明を消すのを忘れた。)
The stage director directed the crew to adjust the stage lights.（舞台監督が舞台チームに舞台照明を調整するよう指示した。）
She admired the decorative pendant lights hanging from the ceiling. (彼女は天井から降りてくる装飾用ペンダント照明を感嘆しながら眺めた。)

「Illuminations」は外に設置する色のあるデコレーション用の照明で、夜に雰囲気を明るくするため使うものを指します。

主にイギリス英語で使う表現です。日本語でも「イルミネーション」とも言います。

The Christmas market was filled with colorful illuminations.（クリスマスマーケットは色とりどりのイルミネーションでいっぱいだった。）
She photographed the illuminations reflecting off the water at night.(彼女は夜に水に映る照明を写真に収めた。)
The illuminations on the buildings created a magical atmosphere in the city.（建物のイルミネーションが都市内に魔法のような雰囲気を形成した。）
