上記の文章から、「多くの人々」が一緒に結婚式に行くことがわかります。多くの人々は、2人以上の多数を意味しているので、文章内でall togetherが正しい表現です。

They were all together in the beginning but split up into groups of two by the end of the day.

前の例と同様に、上記の文章もグループで構成された人々を表しています。したがって、all togetherで表現する必要があることにすぐに気づくでしょう。

The group of students pulled the rope all together, pulling Tom back up to the surface.

大勢の学生がロープを一緒に引っ張っているので、all togetherが正しい表現です。

Altogether

He had to abandon the idea altogether and start from scratch.

上記で、altogetherは「completely」という意味で使われています。以前のアイデアを完全に捨て、やり直すという内容なので、altogetherが正しいです。

The new engine was different altogether, running on hydrogen instead of fuel.

エンジンが「全体的に」、そして「全く」違うことを表現しています。 この場合には、altogetherが使われます。
